What is the use of Font Permission in Book creation phase?

  • This is used in creating HTML pages. In Tablet readers the PDF file is rendered and in HTML5 reader we create HTML page using the PDF file.
  • To maintain the look and feel same as PDF, we need to create the font as well. Now many publishers do not have adequate permission for using font used in PDF file in any other format other than PDF. Such publishers can create eBook by having the Font permission checkbox value unchecked.
  • If the “Font Permission” checkbox is checked at the time of eBook creation, the generated HTML page has all images of PDF converted as .jpg/png background image (.jpg/.png background image based on selection at ebook creation) and Text of PDF file are then converted as a vector graphic.
  • This helps is non-pixelated text with lightweight pages, provided the eBook publisher is having legal rights on the font files used in PDF.

I noted that choosing JPG with 150 dpi is slower to create than JPG with 125, but that 150 dpi is NOT slower for the student to download. Can you confirm that? Would we prefer to use 150?

Yes, books, while creation 150 dpi would take not much but just minor time difference than 125 dpi, however using 150 Dpi, is recommended as pages would look clear in the reader.

Can we or the teacher set up a default setting for sharing? For instance, can the platform be set up so all students are automatically sharing with the teacher as the default setting? In our demo materials, the student has to accept sharing with the teacher.

Currently, user needs to accept or reject every shared note.

Can we disable sharing on any content? For example, we would not want a student to be able to share a completed quiz with another student.

This feature currently not available, If required this can be customized.

Is there a way for students to see or receive a student quiz only when the teacher wants to administer the quiz? For example, could the quiz content be "hidden" on the student bookshelf until activated by the teacher, or could the teacher "push" the quiz to the students from her bookshelf?

What’s the difference between an assigned book and a published/archived book in the Kitaboo Create admin panel? To whom is it assigned? They managed to assign one (automatically after duplicating another book) without having archived it. What does this mean and what does it lead to?

Assigned book is a raw book which is created without any additional data attached to it. It will not contain any enrichments like audio, video, interactivities etc.

Published book is the book created with all the enrichments. This is the final book which is created to support the formats in which they are published( Like HTML, iPad, Android, etc. This book is still not available on the server.

Archived books are books that are moved on the server and are ready to be used by the readers.

How exactly does a teacher assign a book to a student? They thought this is automatic when a student logs in with their access code that’s associated with the class, but it seems to from the teacher’s account that something additional needs to be done, so the student is “assigned” a particular book

It is not a teacher who can assign books. The books are assigned from the distributor account. We can create a class with teacher and students and the books which are assigned to that particular class will be available to all the users present in that class. Teachers and students do have different levels of authorizations. Adding to this, If a teacher and student are fresh (new users) have been assigned to a class, so to enable their name in sharing options or to see a class level association, all the users (teacher/student) should open the book at least once.

Is it possible to add a cover to books in the bookshelf? E.g. The PDF book file does not come with a cover, and they want to add it one for the bookshelf. Or does it need to be added to the start of the PDF file?

Currently, we use the first page of eBook PDF as the cover image of eBook. For Collection, the user can define the collection cover image separately.

If required, you can share the images for any specific ebook which you want to use as eBook cover image. We can get that replaced at the server.
Recommended way is to add that image at the start of PDF file only.

I have done is created a publication in the kitaboo books area, things like "Enrich" are greyed out. why?

The “Enrich” option is greyed out if the book is in “Resume” state and it will only be enabled once the book is converted.

If there is a way for publisher to control updating of the book when it is re-archived? for example, the production can archive the book as many times as needed but the titles mapped on schools will not be affected?

Publisher can update the book as many times as required the changes will not be reflect to the mapped users, unless the book is not archived.
Once the book will get archived post making certain changes/update, user whom the book is mapped will get a update symbol for that title in native app, HTML offline reader. Once updating the title the updates made to the book will be visible for the associated users.

Note – The update symbol will not be visible on HTML online Reader and Offline Reader.
